Write me a letter.
Whether you've just finished one of my books, want me at your festival, or are planning a book club evening, I'd love to hear from you. I read every message myself, usually with a cup of tea.
Send a message
I aim to reply within two weeks. Things get slower when I'm deep in a draft.
Letters from the coast
Once a month: news of new books, early event tickets, what I'm reading, and a short story you won't find anywhere else.
Frequently asked
Will you read my manuscript?
I'm so sorry, but I can't. Partly for time, and partly for legal reasons. My best advice is to find a writing group you trust and to read the acknowledgements pages of books you love to find agents who might suit you.
Can you visit my book club or school?
I do a handful of visits each year, in person in the North East and by video call everywhere else. Choose "Book clubs" in the form above and tell me which book you're reading and when you meet.
Where can I get a signed copy?
Barter Books in Alnwick keeps signed copies of all my books and posts worldwide. You can also bring your own copy to any of my events, listed on the About page.
Is there a sequel to A Lantern for the Drowned?
Not a sequel exactly, but one character from Lantern turns up in The Salt Orchard. I'll say no more.
